With increasing age, fork springs lose their strength and tension and the damping effect noticeably decreases. This is noticeable, for example, by heavy dipping of the fork when braking, fork bottoming out in 2-person operation or by a spongy feeling on uneven road surfaces. The task of the fork springs to respond softly at first and not to sag with increasing load can often not be solved satisfactorily with linear or standard fork springs.

Progressively wound fork springs from Wirth promise a remedy. They combine a comfortable response with a higher spring rate against sponginess and sagging. The springs are easy to replace yourself. The manufacturer recommends using the original recommended oil in the same viscosity and quantity.

The noticeable difference is as follows:
Standard linear fork springs have coils with equal spacing along their entire length. This means that the linear spring always dampens equally.

Progressive springs, on the other hand, have different distances between the coils. Under light load, the spring responds softly at first. If the load increases, the differently wound areas are also activated and the damping becomes noticeably harder. Soft at the beginning, hard at higher loads.
